Easter Chicky Rice Bento

Our Easter Holiday Bento chicks are here!!!

Although a bit late for the week, we finally posted on good friday... and here is the written recipe, so you guys can prepare it for tomorrows easter lunch of a family gathering.

Easter Chicks “Surprise inside” Bento
Yields 9 Rice Balls

Ingredients
16 tbsp Rice, cooked (280g)
6 Quail eggs, soft-boiled
2 Eggs, hard-boiled
1 slice of Ham, cooked
Few slices of carrot
1 sheet of Nori Seaweed (dried laver)
Salt
Water
Mayonnaise

Method
1. Flavour the rice with salt to your liking
2. Place a piece of plastic wrap on your work surface
3. Wet your hands with drinkable water
4. Scoop 2 Tbsp. of rice in the middle of the plastic wrap and insert a quails egg in the middle
5. Shape the rice around the egg using the plastic wrap and form it into an egg like shape
6. Repeat for the remaining quail eggs, set them aside
7. Cut the top and bottom of the hard boiled hen eggs, set them aside
8. Scoop out the egg yolks and mix it with the remaining rice
9. Scoop 1 tbsp + 1 tsp onto a plastic wrap and form it into a ball
10. Repeat with the remaining rice, set them aside
11. Use different cutters/punchers to cut out shapes from the ham, carrot and nori to form the decoration
12. Carve a cracked “egg shell” like pattern out form the tops and bottoms of the hard boiled egg to form a hat
13. Attach all decorations with a little mayonnaise
14. Serve with salad and teriyaki chicken

Tips
I. You can pair it with any side dish for your bento
II. If you reheat the bento in the microwave, there are chances that the soft-boiled quail egg will explode
III. If you are not into soft runny egg yolks, you can hard-boil the quail eggs
IV. Serve it with any condiments to your liking
